Sedona 9 - Week #6

🔥 Top 3 Performers

1. Geraldo Perdomo – SS

Get this man a C on his chest! Perdomo really is an X-factor for this team. While he isn't our best player, he still seems to be one of the most critical and impacts the game each time out. Perdomo delivered a stellar performance for the Diamondbacks during their six-game road trip, batting .476 with a 1.256 OPS. He notched 10 hits in 21 at-bats, including three doubles and a home run, while driving in eight runs and scoring four times. His most notable game was on May 4 against the Phillies, where he went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, leading Arizona to an 11-9 extra-innings win. Perdomo also demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing three walks and striking out only three times over the week. His offensive surge has been instrumental in bolstering the Diamondbacks' lineup the past few weeks, especially with Marte being out.

2. Lourdes Gurriel Jr - LF

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. quietly put together one of his best weeks for the Diamondbacks this season, going 8-for-23 across six road games against the Mets and Phillies. He slashed .348/.400/.609 with three doubles, a home run, and three RBIs. His best game came on May 3, when he launched a two-run homer and added a double, driving in all of Arizona’s runs in a 7-2 loss. Gurriel also added two walks and struck out just three times all week, showcasing solid plate discipline. His OPS for the week topped 1.000, offering much-needed production from the middle of the lineup. As the D-backs look to find their offensive rhythm, Gurriel’s consistency is becoming a steady presence. Let's hope this is the start of something sp

3. Eduardo Rodriguez

Despite a rough showing in his first start of the week against the Mets, E-Rod turned in a gritty outing against the Phillies on May 4, striking out 10 batters over 5.1 innings in one of his sharper performances of the season. He allowed five hits and four runs (three earned), struggling a bit with command as he issued four walks. Despite the traffic on the bases, Rodriguez repeatedly worked out of jams and limited the damage, keeping Arizona within striking distance. He threw 101 pitches, 57 for strikes, and showcased swing-and-miss stuff that had been inconsistent in earlier starts. While he didn’t factor into the decision, Rodriguez’s effort helped pave the way for the Diamondbacks’ 11–9 extra-inning win.

🧊 Bottom 3 Performers

1. Brandon Pfaadt – SP

Brandon Pfaadt struggled in his May 3 start against the Phillies, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. This outing snapped his five-game winning streak and highlighted issues with command and pitch selection. The right-hander will need to make adjustments to regain his early-season form. Pfaadt's struggles put additional pressure on the bullpen. His inability to pitch deep into the game taxed the relief pitchers. Pfaadt's performance this week was a setback for the rotation, but he has been our best pitcher so far this year and will be back to his old self soon... no doubt.

2. Eugenio Suárez – 3B

Eugenio Suárez had a quiet week at the plate during the Diamondbacks’ six-game road trip against the Mets and Phillies. He went just 3-for-25 (.120) over the stretch, managing one double and a single RBI. Suárez’s best outing came on May 3 in Philadelphia, where he tallied two hits in four at-bats, accounting for two of his three total hits on the week. Outside of that game, his bat was largely silent, with seven strikeouts and no walks in the other five contests. He did manage to score twice, one of those coming in Arizona’s extra-inning win on May 4. The D-backs will be hoping for a bounce-back from their veteran third baseman as the homestand begins.

3. Diamondbacks Bullpen

The Diamondbacks’ bullpen had an up-and-down week across their six-game road trip against the Mets and Phillies, allowing 12 earned runs over 22.1 innings for a 4.83 ERA. They started strong with four shutout innings from Ryne Nelson on April 29 and a clutch save by Ryan Thompson on April 30. However, inconsistency crept in, with José Castillo surrendering back-to-back homers in a blown lead on May 2, and additional runs given up in the late innings on May 3 and 4. Shelby Miller blew a save on May 4 but was bailed out in extras by Jalen Beeks, who secured the win despite a rocky stretch of bullpen pitching. Injuries to key arms like A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez have forced Arizona to lean on less proven relievers in critical spots. While there were flashes of reliability, the bullpen's struggles in high-leverage moments continue to be a concern heading into the next stretch of games.

🌟 Top 3 Surprises

1. José Herrera – C

José Herrera stepped up offensively on May 4, going 2-for-4 with a two-run double that extended the Diamondbacks' lead. His performance at the plate complemented his defensive duties and added depth to the lineup. Herrera's emergence as a contributor was a pleasant surprise for the team. His ability to handle the pitching staff is also noteworthy. Herrera's performance this week demonstrated his potential. His contributions provide the team with additional options at catcher. Herrera's development is a positive sign for the future. His performance this week was a boost for the Diamondbacks.

2. Ketel Marte – 2B

Ketel Marte made his return to the Arizona Diamondbacks' lineup this past week after recovering from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since early April. In his first game back on May 2 against the Philadelphia Phillies, Marte led off with a single, marking a promising start to his comeback. However, over the two games he played, his overall performance was modest, going 1-for-7 at the plate with one walk and one strikeout. His batting average for the week stood at .143, with an on-base percentage of .250 and a slugging percentage of .143. Notably, Marte appeared to be cautious on the basepaths, likely to avoid aggravating his recent injury. While his immediate impact was limited, his presence in the lineup is a positive sign for the Diamondbacks as they look to strengthen their roster. Fans will be eager to see how Marte progresses in the coming weeks as he works to regain his pre-injury form.

3. Ryne Nelson - RP

Ryne Nelson was a standout performer in relief this past week, tossing 4.0 shutout innings against the Mets on April 29. Entering after Eduardo Rodriguez’s rough outing, Nelson stabilized the game by allowing no hits and just two walks while striking out three. He faced 13 batters and needed 68 pitches to navigate through the final frames, showcasing strong command and poise. His ability to eat innings spared the bullpen from overuse in the first game of the series. While the D-backs ultimately lost 8–3, Nelson’s outing was a silver lining in an otherwise difficult game. It was a much-needed bounce-back showing as he continues to find his rhythm in a hybrid bullpen role.
